A Superb RIB quilt that has featured in several exhibitions.
A simple satin cotton patchwork of a sophisticated floral with a glamorous green - flounced all round, the reverse is a wholcloth green. ( a very slight fold mark or colour transfer can be seen on the green side but this does not detract from its collectability )
The wonderful Welsh quilting includes a central coin with spirals , large fans an inner chain border and an outer border of large leaves , rams horns and flowers.
The Rural Industries Bureau ( RIB) was set up in 1923 with the aim of encouraging the development of traditional rural crafts in areas of high unemployment. It was not however until 1928 that professional quilters with the aid of Mavis Fitz Randolph and Muriel Rose of The little Gallery in London , were included in this scheme ( Further information available )
Some of the most fabulously stitched quilts were produced in this period with high quality fabrics many of which appeared in our 2017 Exhibition As good as it Gets .
