Nineteenth Century Blanket in Red and Grey Stripes.
A large herringbone weave each stripe a two tone ,red and black and grey and black giving an almost optical feel. What is more unusual is the stripes are horizontal rather than vertical .
As with all narrow loom blankets it is joined by hand in the middle.
Rare artisan piece, unusual so possibly the product of a 'parlour loom'.
Blankets such as this rarely come with a provenance , the expert on the Welsh Woollen industry , always told us that 'unless it has a label or the previous owner knows of the mill then its almost impossible to say '
This lovely blanket has several darns and there is a little colour bleeding from the red , but it is still a lovely early and collectable piece.
